Ashley's Healthcare Video

MSNBC's coverage of myths and healthcare coverage is very interesting. I'm surprised that they didn't deal with the fact that the White House's message impacts news coverage. As a news organiztion when criticizing the White House, I think it's also important to discuss the coverage you are able to air. The message the White House puts out, MSNBC covers. Also, Andrea Mitchell is stumbling off the top of the opinion poll. As a former TV journalist, it appeared to me she didn't really understand (or didn't go over) what she was even delivering.

  1. Victoria..what do you mean the coverage they are "able" to air?? You mean due to time constraints or producers or political pressures/ alliances?? Since you worked in TV can you elaborate a little more on that?

  2. Good point...
What I meant by comment is the coverage that is available -- what news organizations feel is credible to air. As a producer and reporter, I saw (time and time again) news wires pick up stories and news organizations reproduce that material without adding to it. In this case, the organization would just rerun the White House healthcare message of the day in a 20 second reader or video with file. Oftentimes, in my opinion, news organizations take the word of officials --without question on ongoing stories like heatlh care. If you read news web sites or listen to on air coverage, you will see (or hear) the same story ,sometimes, over and over again straight from the wires. As a journalist, in my opinion, it is important to question what you are covering, especially when you are questioning others' messages.
    I hope that makes senses.
