Gulf War

Today's reading, "Policy and Opinion in the Gulf War" took me back to January 1991, to the day the Gulf War began.
I was sitting in the newsroom, waiting for our 6 p.m. news to start when the networks started broadcasting the first bombs fired...on live television.
All of us looked at each other in amazement. It is safe to say that most of us in the newsroom had grown up watching snippets of the Vietnam War on the nightly newscasts....but that was newsfilm that had been shot, processed and spliced together.
What we watched in January of 1991 was live television! After our "shock and awe" we wrapped ourselves in the American flag, and quickly developed our patriotic swagger. Afterall, President Bush had promised us this war was going to fast and victorious...not another Vietnam. We crossed our fingers, said a prayer, and hoped for a quick ending. Andrea
